LaCie announced today it is first on the block to ship a professional external Blu-ray drive for Windows and Mac. But, it looks like they aren't exactly shipping it yet. According to their website you can pre-order the unit with an expected ship date of "late January 2007". Anyway, the LaCie d2 Blu-ray Drive comes bundled with Easy Media Creator 8 for Windows, Toast Titanium for Mac and has both firewire and USB interfaces. The unit will read 25GB or 50GB BD-R and BD-RE discs, plus the normal DVD-RW DL and CD-RW. And with your purchase you will also get a shiny new Panasonic 50GB disc.
