21. Playstation 3 = Blu-ray player. I'm all for Blu-ray, I love the PQ (Picture Quality) of the movies. I like how the discs are scratch-resistance giving it a smoother surface then other discs.

22. I have the Xbox 360 and HD DVD add-on running on Samsung 50" 720p/1080i plasma. For the extra $200 it's pretty amazing. I was surprised to learn that many of the HD DVD's are actually in 1080p. Also, netflix already has a pretty good selection of HD DVD so you can actually get some use out of it. Movies look stunning and the sound quality is better than any DVD I have heard. The difference will definitely be noticeable on a really good sound system. The interface and functionality has also been improved (menu's can be brought up while the movie is running etc. so no load times) I don't know who will win the "war" but from what I've heard about the PS3's bungled launch I don't have a great feeling about Blu Ray. Seems like Best Buy has about the same number of titles for each. I think if you look at Blu Ray and HD DVD next to each other on a good TV there is'nt a noticeable difference. Oh well, I guess we'll see!

23. Generally movies are not filmed in HD. The are filmed on FILM! Then later, in post production they transferred into a digital format that can be put on DVD, HD-DVD, or Blu-Ray. Because the "resolution" of film is so much higher than that of HD, whether or not it is filmed in HD has nothing to do with the quality after it is released for purchase.

So to say that because "most of the movies currently available were not filmed in HD, so to me the picture is only slightly better" makes absolutley no sense, and is an ignorant thing to say. If anything, because most movies today are not filmed in HD, and are in fact filmed on film, they would have signifacantly better picture quality.

Also nothing is "filmed" in HD! HD is a digital format, therefor, it is eaither taped (when using tapes such as HDV), or recorded (when using solid sate such as P2, or a hard drive).

When newer cameras, possibly the RED camera, which have 4K picture resolution (think of it as super HD, or HD times 4), then we will be coming closer to digitally reaching the resoltion of film. But as for HD, its not even close.

As for my opinion of HD-DVD vs Blur-Ray, Blu-Ray takes the cake!

24. I was one of the early adoptors of HD-DVD. Bought the Toshiba HD-A1 the same day it was introduced to the public. It had some minor hickups at the beginning but it was finally resolved with firmware updates. Result? Beautiful!!! I've never enjoyed anything as much. There's been a lot of controversy as to which format is better. Some say Blu-Ray is better because it has more capacity. Who cares? It has no other advantages. From what I've seen the picture quality is as good as HD-DVD. What else is there to compare? After all is it not the purpose of these formats to watch movies in HD? The bottom line is why would anyone in their right mind support and buy anything in Blu-Ray when the price of hardware is double or more and even the software is generally higher. I think HD-DVD is the natural progression to DVD having much of the same structure as DVD and therefore easier and cheaper to produce. Sony is once again trying to shove the Blue-Ray format down our throats with the same attitude They adopted when they introduced many other failed formats. And that is " take what we give you and pay what we ask and don't ask questions." I predict HD-DVD will prevail and Blu-Ray will go the same way as Betamax.

25. I first want to Scream an objection to those of you who think >50 equals blind!!! I, and my techless attorney wife (we're both 56), CLEARLY see HD and it's quality over even very good upconverted HD. AND, my parents (84, 89) who got my newish but too big CRT based Misubishi were astonished at the quality, and were watching SD. Wait till they see HD! Don't be writing us off yet. Oh and we love the audio - esp. me noticing the TrueHD over DD+ (the others don't get that).

As for format war...I bought HD DVD because it was a decent deal and had the better upconversion (HD-XA1)which it is great. I'd like to get a BR player ASAP as well - I want access ot all content and for about another $500 already(soon to be less) I can get it! I have heard BR is less toxic to manufacture than HD DVD so for that alone, I would prefer BR win any format war.
BUT in the end, I go with the camp that both must go the way of the dinosaur - for downloadable, plasticless, "almost" hardwareless sourcing. See Apple's new AppleTV - generation 1, a great first step. Just wait for gen 4 or 5 - HD plastic, as in observe CD plastic, will eventually die.

26. It appears the BD vs HD-DVD war has once again been decided by the porn industry as it did in the VHS vs Betamax war. We all know who won that one. And the winner? HD-DVD. Why? Because Sony, in their usual arrogant fashion, threated to withdraw licensing rights to anyone supporting that industry. And because Sony is too stupid to learn from their (many) mistakes. For those who have invested in BD hardware and software, you have my sympathy. I'll leave it at that.

27. My HD for my Xbox 360 works great althought my Samsung LCD works only on 720 HD movies are great. If you can sing up with Netflix HD movies you can get tons of movies for a decent price per month.
