As a nice little follow-up to Camcorderinfo's interview with Sony concerning CCD vs. CMOS, Digital Content Producer has an excellent feature on the capabilities of Sony's 3ClearVID CMOS sensor, as seen in their latest HDV camera, the HVR-V1. The article helps to explain the technology behind 3ClearVID that sets it apart from previous sensors and enabling it to offer overall better performance, especially in terms of "latitude", or dynamic range. Latitude refers to the range of light intensities that a camera can accurately handle. Strong latitude means that highlights don't instantly blow out in a scene with dynamic lighting, for example. Very informative read for those interested in not only Sony's V1, but dynamic range and sensor technology in general. Good stuff worth understanding.(via FresHDV)
