Later today, online video sharing site
Brightcove will release new features making it easier to insert ads into video clips, syndicate, and sell content. These new services will benefit both video producers and website owners where Brightcove will match up the two. For example, a news site on extreme sports could get a feed on foreign surf competitions from an established news agency like Reuters, resell or syndicate its own clips to online outdoor-clothing merchants, and put ads in the videos it produces. Unlike the video portal YouTube, Brightcove believes the best way to reach an audience is directly, which is why the site lets people create their own
Internet TV channel which they can also profit from. The service is free but Brightcove keeps 50% of ad-revenue and 30% of sales. This could be an interesting way for video producers to monetize their content, but will Internet users accept ads inserted into video content? I guess we shall see...
1. Interesting use of Adobe's Flex 2 in their studio interface.
