Sony jumps on portable video player bandwagon

Sony has recently announced that it has started development on a video-capable Walkman. Sony Senior Vice President Hiroshi Yoshioka said: "We are developing a product that handles images, but I cannot make any comment on specific plans." Obviously, they'll be playing a huge game of catchup between Apple's iPod and its (veryvery) firm stance in the marketplace, and Microsoft's upcoming Zune that is determined to chip away at Apple's overwhelming share. There's been no indication of a potential release date for Sony's device, but I think it's safe to say that they are going to have to do something pretty big to draw some attention. And no silly new Sony-only formats, please.
