I just finished watching Elephants Dream, a short movie created entirely with open source tools. Six members of the Blender user/development community were selected to go to Amsterdam and work on the movie with producer Ton Roosendaal, the creator of Blender, an open source 3D graphics creation tool. Blender and Gimp were the primary tools used to create the short animation. You can download the movie from the website, along with extras including The Making of Elephants Dream which I highly recommend watching. All production files are available for download and can be used following the Creative Commons license. Folks, this is good stuff.Elephants Dream

1. I've been using blender3D for a couple years now. It has come a long way. If anyone here is interested in getting into 3d Modeling, or is thinking of giving blender3d a try after using 3dsMax or Maya, feel free to hop on over to the #blender IRC chat on irc.freenode.net We're always happy to help with any type of question.
As for ED (as we call it in #blender) I wasn't too impressed. It was too much of, "Ooo, look what we can do now! Pixar, make way!" It was nothing more than an animated gallery of what Blender is capable of.
