Some police departments go digital

It's great to see some police departments are finally getting the opportunity to upgrade to new technology. This department is now using an in-car digital video system that rolls back as much as three minutes from the moment officers flip on their lights and sirens, grab a shotgun or turn on a wireless microphone. When they return to the station, the digital videos are downloaded over a wireless network to servers. Cool. (psst, don't forget to backup)

Unfortunately, the high cost of this technology is preventing other police departments from going the same route. It is estimated to cost between $4,000 and $7,000 to install this system in each car. Ouch.
