Edit to the Maxx - The Art of the Digital Cut

If you are new to video editing, or your workflow needs a little polishing, here is a series of articles for you. Targeting beginners, this column is published semi-monthly and covers a wide variety of editing topics. The tutorials are based around the free NLE, Avid Free DV. This is a smart idea and enables everyone to follow along with the same NLE. The tutorials aren't geared toward teaching this specific software, more of the editing how-to's in general. I like the idea of using the free software because it enables new users to get their feet wet without a large investment. You can always switch to a more robust NLE later if needed.

There are currently 6 articles posted, with more to come. Here are some of the topics the articles will cover: Planning Your Shoot, Logging Your Tapes, Planning Your Edit, Capturing DV/HDV, Create a Sequence, Clip Trimming, Add Clips to a Sequence, Basic Timeline Editing, Precision Timeline Trimming, Add Video Effects (Filters) to a Clip, Work with Audio, Add Transitions, Use Video and Audio Inserts, Create Titles, Export to DV/HDV, Color Correction, and many more.

There is good information in these articles, even if you think you know what you are doing.
