If you edit on the Windows platform, you know it is important to keep your system running as clean as possible. When programs are uninstalled they sometimes leave garbage behind in the registry. Some programs load up little apps at startup that you aren't even aware of, sucking up some of your processing speed. Over time this can cause your system to become sluggish. I recommend running a program to help clean up the mess about once a month. I use CCleaner, a system optimization and privacy tool. It analyzes the system quickly and allows you to clean up as much or as little as you want. CCleaner is free and contains no adware or spyware. It will not delete anything until you tell it to so it is safe to analyze your system before deciding to let it take action. Clean up your system with CCleaner

(Page 1)2. Definitely good advice Russell. A lot of people hate to defrag because it takes so long on todays larger hard drives. Heck, just kick it off before you go to bed and it will be done when you get up. To me that's better than battling a slow system during editing.

1. In addition it is also important to defragment your hard drive, especially drives that deal with a lot of video being written and erased. Overtime data becomes scattered across your hard drive as new data is written and erased. Defragmenting tidies it up so the hard drive head doesn't have to go searching all over the hard drive to find what it is looking for. You can see a great increase in performance after doing this every couple of months.
