This got me completely off-guard. Canon has released two HDV cameras that are successors to the GL2. Both cams feature the 16:9, 1/3-inch CCDs (same as Canon's XL H1) recording 1080i at 60 and 24fps (Canon's 24f option). Both models also feature 2.8-inch LCDs, 20X zoom lenses and XLR inputs. The XH A1 is the entry level model priced at $4000 that will be available in October. The XH G1 is an extra 3K ($7000) that will be available in November. The XH G1 biggest extras are that it has HD/SD-SDI, Genlock and TC in/out which allows you to output uncompressed HD footage to disk. Looks fantastic, it was time the GL2 line got updated. More on this later.

1. Is it just me, or are black cameras hot? hot hot...
Things are looking good for HD!
