The title of this post is Mike's reaction at HD for Indies to the new Sony offerings. His biggest problem is that there is no decent way of editing the footage from these cameras. So yes, do not use or buy this camera till there is a way to work with them. If you are just a home movie kind of guy, the problem exists but not so much. What happens when non-linear systems start to support it, is it good enough? Maybe! I would prefer recording directly to flash cards but I guess we will have to wait for Panasonic's offerings. AVCHD's codec is more effecient than HDV in compressing, storing data and has a better sound codec. But why do we need this intermediate jump? Why another format to deal with? HDV can certainly handle consumer and prosumer's needs. There are pro's but not enough.

1. This is great news from Sony and something I have been waiting for since the original AVCHD announcement.
Tape based technology is so last century and DVD (or better still) hard disk technology the only way to go. Sure flash memory will be the next step but for now the cost is too high and the capacity too low. Well done Sony, High Definition for the masses!!
