The news of Shake being released as a Universal Binary was expected, it was just a matter of time. But that the professional Oscar winning compositing application will drop in price by $2500 is a shocker. Wow, I read the press release again and I still don't believe it. I always thought Shake was little too pricey but never this cheap. This is what Rob Schoeben, Apple's vice president of Applications Product Marketing, said about the price drop: "At just $499, Shake is now priced as low as a plug-in for Final Cut Studio." No idea why Apple has decided with the price drop. It wasn't selling fast enough? Better business to sell more than pricing higher? Is this part of some restructuring happening within Apple's Pro apps? Final Cut Extreme? A lot of questions but this is great news.

1. This is quite a shocker. My fear is that while it is nice to have such a high end tool at such a lot price point, the market perception is that it will now be seen as more of a toy and not the high end composting app that it is. Shake is used way more than most people realize on the big name features and as a Mac user I'm proud of that fact. I hope it doesn't get kicked to the curb by some of the highest end users.
