I have mentioned Withoutabox before, an online site that aids with your film festival submissions. Submitting my film around, I was frustrated with filling out the same info over and over again. So I decided to give this site a try and I was pleasantly surprised. The things I liked about Withoutabox:
- A lot of festivals are officially supported. 80% of the ones I had in mind.
- I love the "watch list" where you can keep list of films that you are thinking of submitting to.
- The one-time submission process was done really well. It did not insist that I fill out every box.
- The process of submitting to festivals was painless. Couple of clicks away. Be careful, you could spend a lot of money pretty quick.
- You get a lot from the free account.
- Keeps you up to date with deadlines and all that stuff.
- I like the idea of having a blog page or an audience page. I however did not use it but I am happy it is available.
Things I dislike about it:
- There is three different accounts available at these prices: a) Free b) $129 c)$139. Anyone else see the absurdity?
- The search results need to be less restrained. It seems like the site is searching tags instead of actually searching the Festival page. I could be wrong.
- The site navigation could be improved. It is not horrible but it lacks cohesiveness. It feels like there have added a lot of new features without reorganizing the structure.
But I definitely recommend this site. Very useful for people who lack organization.
