NAB: All about Avids

Avid Xpress 5.5 Pro software was released yesterday. Xpress Pro is Avid's mid-level editing solution. The new version can now deliver HD; supports P2, Sony XDCAM, HDV and DVCPro HD. It was announced alongside Avid Mojo SDI, a digital accelerator for their Non-linear systems. Avid Xpress 5.5 will ship in June for $1,700. Read more about it here.

Avid introduced a new software-only version of the Media Composer family that can connect directly to Avid’s Interplay. Media Composer, Avid's high end editing solution, now includes format support for DVCPRO HD, HDV, and Avid DNxHD resolutions of 145 Mb, 220 Mb, and 10-bit 220 Mb data rates, enabling the image quality of uncompressed HD at standard-definition data rates. Media Composer also adds real-time HD multicam, allowing simultaneous playback of all multicam views for on-the-fly editing in real-time. The software costs around $4,995 and is expected to ship in Q2 2006. Read more about it here.
