Media 100 split from
parent company
Boris FX in a renegade move Saturday, surprising industry analysts
with a hostile takeover of three of its chief competitors:
Adobe Software,
Apple Computer, and
Avid Technology. Citing their
"virtual lockdown on the low-end corporate video market," Media 100 executives were able to negotiate
contract terms deemed "favorable and generous" by Apple's Steve Jobs, who walked away with $56 (dollars, not
millions) in stock options and an iPod nano. Jobs stated, "the iPod is now a collector's item," in
reference to Media 100's decision to rechristen all future iPods "Media 100 Media Masters." On the
editing front, the company immediately switched Avid's entire NLE lineup back to A/B editing, and plans to fold Apple
and Adobe's offerings together into a new program deemed "Final Premiere Pro Pro." With the
acquisitions, Media 100 announced that they have changed their name to Media 1,000,000.
