UMD: Another Dead Format

Like I have stated before:  Sony's UMD disk format was going nowhere. It was presumed dead, now we hear that Walmart will stop carrying the media. Can we safely now that it is over? Who really expected that people would buy movies on UMD to watch it on PSP and nothing else. Music might have been different, maybe a couple years back but movies, to a large degree, people still want to see it in a relatively big screen. For those who didn't own PSP, UMD's was useless. And why not use formats that are already out there instead of making up a new one.
