Here's one with a heart (plus, I've volunteered to help spread the word because I think it's such a great cause). Film Your Issue (FYI) is having a nationwide contest where you submit a 30-60 second socially conscious film. According to their web site "any film that elicits passion for you, from AIDS to homelessness to healthcare to discrimination. Any approach is welcome, using honesty, humor, seriousness to present a society issue that you feel strongly about." It doesn't cost anything to enter and the winners get the most awesome prizes that any filmmaker would appreciate...
VIP judges include George Clooney, Phillip Seymour Hoffman, Senator Barack Obama among other major players. Six finalist entries will be selected by a process of voting by the public and judges. The top-voted entry in each of the six categories will be broadcast on mtvU, mtvU Uber, MSN Video and MSNBC.com, and other platforms, and presented at the Maui Film Festival.
One candidate from each of the six winning films will receive a trip to New York City, including airfare and accommodations, for the cocktail awards ceremony at United Nations Headquarters. Woohoo!
Also, one candidate from each of the six winning films will receive a trip to Park City, Utah, in January 2007, during festival season, including airfare and accommodations, where MSN Spaces will present the top finalists and their entries at a private event.
Two of the six finalist candidates will be selected for a paid 8-week internship at Paramount Pictures and The Walt Disney Company. They will also receive a Motorola RAZR V3 mobile phone and a Toshiba Qosmio laptop.
The deadline is May 1st and you have to be 18-26 years old to enter.
