A major hurdle with network storage has been speed. 100 Megabit is the current de-facto standard, although gigabit eithernet does exist, and comes standard in Macs. Now, Fujitsu and Apace say they've developed 10 gigabit ethernet OVER COPPER. Seriously, no fibre channel required, nothing crazy like that. Apace and Fujitsu intend to market an end-to-end line of products to take advantage of the increased speed. Apace already makes some networked storage products, and being a part of this 10GbE (10 Gigabit over Ethernet) alliance will really appeal to a ton of video professionals. If you're going to DV Expo West this week, Apace is there. Ask-em about their plans with 10GbE, and see if they squirm.
