Now this is drool-worthy, Japan's Kansai Electric Power Co said it has developed technology that allows the transmission of a two-hour movie in 0.5 seconds. The high speed is achieved using fibre-optic cables on power-transmitting steel towers. The transmission speed of one terabit per second is more than 100 times faster than inter-city data transmissions currently in use, a company spokesman said. Kansai has not decide when it will put the technology to commercial use, though it was possible it could be in 2010 or later. I wonder if local Broadband and Hollywood-like companies would allow such power falls in the hands of regular users. Watching movies on an iTunes-like is closer than we think.(via Cinematical)
