Earlier today at Apple’s much anticipated press event the cover was final taken off the video iPod. The new iPod (will still just be know as the iPod) opens up a whole new realm of digital video production just like its predecessors did for audio production. Video blogging has been around for a while now, but has yet to truly take off. But with the advent of a portable video player that will surly grab a huge portion of the market, unlike any player has done before, video bloggers will now have a much wider audience that will be actively looking to load up their new iPod with all kinds of new content. I expect to see a huge increase in the popularity of vblogging over the next few months just like with podcasting over the last year.
As far as the specs on the new iPod, it will sport a 2.5-inch display with a max resolution of 320 x 240 and video out via composite cables. Both MPEG-4 and h.264 formats will be supported for video playback at up to 30fps. 30BG and 60BG, white and black iPods will be available for $299 and $399 respectively. Along with the new iPod, Apple also announced iTunes 6 which will feature music video as well as select TV show downloads for $1.99 a piece. It will be interesting to see how things play out over the next few months, and to see if people are really ready to watch video on the go.

1. I'm a bit underwhelmed by all of todays announcements.
Reading up on the new iPod at Apple's website, I see you can put your home movies on it -- but you have to shell out for Quicktime Pro in order to do so.
Now I think Quicktime pro is a great app, and I happily paid for it and use it frequently, but I don't think the iMovie crowd should have to shell out for it just to they can get their home movies onto their iPod. What's wrong with an export to iPod option in iMovie?
